COVID-19 HEALTH & SAFETY POLICIES
Lexington Sports & Social Club
Updated June 18, 2020

SUMMARY

This document describes our COVID-19 reopening / mitigation plan relative to all of our upcoming summer 2020 adult sports leagues, including policy changes and other efforts to reduce the probability of transmission of the disease.

SETUP / GENERAL POLICIES

  1. All games and events shall be set up in such a way as to comply with the “50-and-under” rule for social gatherings to go into effect on June 29, 2020.
  2. Players will be assigned a bench/side/dugout/board/lane prior to the start of the game/match, and must refrain from visiting other fields or games during their designated play time.
  3. All players not actively competing will be required to comply with any additional policies established by the venue that may not be covered by this policy.
  4. Players may not invite guests or fans that aren’t registered players.  Bleachers/stands or other fan areas shall be used only by registered players.
  5. A staff member will oversee compliance with all rules throughout the event.

PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT (PPE)

  1. For indoor events, all LexSSC staff will wear a face mask at all times during the course of the event.
  2. A reusable cotton mask will be provided by LexSSC to players on request, if they wish to wear one during the course of the games and do not have one.  Due to impacts on breathing, they will not be required by players or referees when those referees responsibilities require significant physical activity.

GAMEPLAY CHANGES

  1. Each team’s equipment including bags, game balls, bats, or any other necessary equipment will be restricted to that team. Players should avoid picking up or contacting equipment belonging to the other team, or contacting common gear like scoreboards.
  2. A single score keeper will be designated prior to the start of the match or game. Only that person may update the scoreboard.
  3. All players shall refrain from handshakes or any other physical contact not directly related to game play, including post-game handshakes.  Contactless gestures like “air fives” or thumbs ups should be used instead.
  4. Players should remain at least 6 feet apart whenever possible.

CLEANLINESS & DISINFECTANT

  1. Hand sanitizer will be available at each “home bench” area, and restricted for use by the designated team. Players are encouraged to use hand sanitizer prior to starting any match or game and at the finish of each.
  2. Any equipment and any commonly used surfaces will be sprayed and wiped with Lysol before each match.  Equipment that is more difficult to clean on-the-spot will be limited for use for a single game, and then thoroughly cleaned between game days.
  3. Game balls will only be used in a single game, and when possible only by a single team.  Game balls will be “retired” after use in the game until they can be cleaned with Lysol.

SPORTS-SPECIFIC POLICIES

Soccer

  1. Each match will be provided with 3 pre-sanitized balls for use during the course of the game.  No outside balls will be permitted; these balls will be retired between each game until they can be sanitized for subsequent weeks’ games.
  2. Each team’s “bench” area will be placed on opposite sides of the field.  Players not currently fielded must remain on their side of the field.

Cornhole

  1. Cornhole bags will be soaked washed with concentrated laundry detergent and water and dried, and kept in sanitary isolation prior to the evening’s matches.  They will be used for a single match, and replaced with fresh, washed bags for subsequent matches.  These bags will be washed in this manner each week.

Basketball

  1. A fresh, sanitized ball will be used in each game.  Once the game has concluded, the ball will be put away, and a fresh pre-sanitized ball used for the next game.  The used ball will be put away and full sanitized before the next week’s game.

Bowling

  1. Each team will get a lane assigned ahead of time. Only the 4 individuals playing in that game will be permitted within that area (8 people total, four for each team). All players not actively competing will be required to comply with the usual standards established by the venue.

Softball & Kickball

  1. Each team will get softballs/kickball to use when they are in the field and only their softball/kickball may be used when that team is on defense and not batting/kicking.
  2. Fresh, sanitized ball/balls will be used only for a single game.  Once the game has concluded, the ball(s) will be put away, and fresh pre-sanitized ball(s) used for the next game.  The used ball(s) will be put away and full sanitized before the next week’s game.
  3. For softball, LexSSC will not provide shared bats like we normally would; players / teams must provide their own bats.  Players are strongly encouraged to bring their own bat that they use exclusively.

Flag Football

  1. Each team will get a football to use when they are on offense and only their football may be used when that team is on offense.
  2. Flags will be soaked washed with concentrated laundry detergent and water and dried, and kept in sanitary isolation prior to each game.  They will be used for a single game, and replaced with fresh, washed bags for subsequent matches.  All flags will be washed in this manner each week.
  3. Only the league-provided balls may be used.   Absolutely no exceptions. Each ball will be marked and specific to each team’s use when they are on offense.
  4. Each team’s “bench” area will be placed on opposite sides of the field.  Players not currently fielded must remain on their side of the field.
