🇨🇭NEW THIS SEASON:   SWISS SCHEDULE

In order to better match teams of a similar skill and make the experience more fun for everyone, this season we will be using "Swiss" schedule, rather than a traditional random pairings we've used in the past.  Big scoring differentials between mismatched teams was one of the frustrations experienced in the past, which Swiss scheduling aims to help fix.

A Swiss schedule pairs teams of a roughly similar skill level, and is an alternative to creating multiple skill divisions. Because matches in a Swiss tournament are based on a team's record, we must wait until each week's games are completed before scheduling the next week's games.  We'll post the the updated schedule shortly after the completion of the week's games.

How it works (UPDATED):  For each round (i.e. each week), teams are divided into "point groups", i.e. teams with a similar record as determined by PTS in the standings.  The teams are ranked within those point groups using our standard tie-breakers: HH, WTL, SOS and SOV.   The top half of each point group will then play the bottom half of each point group.  For example, if there are 8 teams in a point group, then 1 plays 5, 2 plays 6, and so on, with adjustments made so that they don't play the same team twice during the regular season.  As teams win or lose games, they may move between different point groups, and become eligible to play different teams.  Over time, on average, higher-performing teams will play increasingly difficult opponents, and lower-performing teams will play teams increasingly closer to their performance.

Playoffs will be run in the usual fashion, with a single elimination tournament of the top 8 teams.

We've used a Swiss schedule in the past for kickball, which was very well received.  It made a big difference in players enjoyment of the games.

For a more detailed technical explanation of how Swiss-system tournaments work, please see the Wikipedia article on the subject.
